Birth Date: 09/24/1926
Deceased Date: 03/27/2023
Carl Bennett Warren, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023. Carl was born in Dunn, North Carolina to Carl Bennett Warren, Sr. and Ethel Irene Baynes Warren on September 4, 1926.
In 1937, Carl, sister Mary Sue, and their parents moved to Newton Grove where both children attended Westbrook School. In 1943, he graduated from Dunn High School and continued his studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the New York School of Interior Design. Carl’s professional career began with Kent-Bragaline, Inc. in, New York and continued with Belk in Goldsboro, Fayetteville, and Dunn.
Carl’s faith in God was evident throughout his life. He was a member of Divine Street Methodist Church in Dunn and later joined Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church upon moving to Newton Grove. He faithfully served in many capacities – as a deacon, committee member, choir member, Sunday School teacher, and pianist. One of his proudest accomplishments was still being able to play the piano for church at 96 years of age. Carl’s avocations were preservation, genealogy, travel, and a love of nature. He willingly shared his experiences and knowledge as a way of preserving traditions and connections and creating a legacy of historical appreciation.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his nieces, Brenda Sue Warren of Kinston, Cathy Warren Mason of Newton Grove, and Caroline Warren of Raleigh, and his nephew, Blake Warren (Donna) of Newton Grove. Great-nieces and great-nephews include Hardee Merritt (Rachel), Amanda Gullie (Andrew), April Dudley (Nathan), Thomas Merritt (Christina), Pamela Lewis, and William Warren (Heather). He is also survived by 12 special great-great “grandchildren.”
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina, for their loving and compassionate care.
