Cecil Junior Fields, 89, of Newton Grove, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 17, 1936 in Sampson County to the late Ezra Allen Fields and Hettie Jane Jones Fields.

Cecil owned and operated Cecil’s Exxon in Newton Grove for 65 years, 46 years of which were spent with his partner Ronnie Wise and with both of their hard work and dedication, they built Cecil’s Exxon what it is today.

He was a hardworking man, who loved to work and enjoyed operating heavy duty wrecker equipment. He was also kind to everyone he met and was not one to talk bad about someone. He took care of his siblings, and put family first above all else. Especially when it came to the love of his life, Landis. As long as Landis was around, he knew everything was going to be okay. He loved spending time riding around with Landis, whether it be a golf cart or wrecker, taking him to the store. Landis describes him as being a strong man.

He is survived and loved by his wife of 67 years, Joanne Warren Fields; daughter, Barbara Burch (Ted); grandsons, Field Burch (Marsha) and Warren Burch (Brittany); and great-grandchild, and love of Cecil’s life, Landis Burch.

The family will be receiving friends at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church on August 3, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM.
