It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Gilbert Williams, who died peacefully surrounded by his family on April 14th, 2023. Charles was born in Dunn, North Carolina, on November 22, 1932, to Isiah and Ila Frances Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife, Glorice Williams; his children, Chris, Shannon, and Athena, his stepson, Ron; his 6 grandchildren, Bridgette and Travis; Cabell, Liza, and Jack; and David; and his two great-grandchildren; Riley and Kaden.
Charles was born on a farm in Dunn, where he worked with his dad during his formative years. Following graduation from high school, Charles joined the army and was part of the occupational forces in Germany following WWII. An inventor and tinkerer at heart, Charles was fascinated with electronics, lights, and music production. He even managed a band “The Novas,” where he supplied the sound system and electronically synchronized light show. He worked in a variety of vocations providing electronic repair service, at one point running his own electronics repair shop. Later in his career, he joined Burlington Industries where he worked as a lead electrician until his retirement.
Charles had an inherent and infectious curiosity for life. One could often find him in his workshop, tinkering with devices of all types or talking on his CB radio. Charles was creative, philosophical, and quick-witted, loving to laugh and surprise folks with one or another magic tricks he would carry around with him in his pocket.
Above all, Charles deeply loved his wife Glorice and God.
His family fondly remembers his favorite phrase, “Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything”
