Dwight Wade Sorrells, age 70, of Pine Level, NC passed away peacefully and went to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC. He was born in Montgomery, AL on May 28, 1951 to the late Wilburn and Irene Sorrells.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Pender Sorrells and their dog Remi; son, Jason Sorrells and wife Anne of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jane Lowry, Lilly and Wade; daughter, Shannon Young and husband Timm of Belmont, NC; sister, Becky Garrard of Wetumpka, AL; brother-in-law Eric Bradshaw (Jennifer); sister-in-law Phyllis Pender and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his second mom, Athlea Peedin and her loving family- Tim, Georgia (Marcus), Tony (Lisa), Jennifer (Woody) and their extended family. He had many wonderful caregivers including Marlene, Carolyn, Tina, Karen, Vanessa, Tracey, and Jeannette.
Dwight faithfully served his family, church, community, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was an Air Force veteran (having served in the Vietnam Conflict), a long-time member of the Pine Level Voluntary Fire Department (serving in multiple capacities including Fire Chief), the Pine Level American Legion, the Pine Level Lions Club, and a member of Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church, where he helped in building and maintaining the sound system and the chimes, of which, he was very proud.
He retired from Eaton Corporation in Selma, NC after 32 years.
A visitation (11am – 1pm) and funeral service (1pm) will be conducted on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow at Price Cemetery in Pine Level, NC.
