Four Oaks, NC, Mrs. Ellen Barbour Boyd, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Graveside Funeral Services will be 10:00AM-Friday, July 25, 2025 at Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma, NC. Rev. Wayne Dunn will officiate.

Ellen was born on September 24, 1956, to the late Clyde & Olivia “Beba” Barbour. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Boyd, Jr., and her brother, William “Bill” Clyde Barbour, Jr. For over 30 years, Ellen was a teacher with Johnston County Public Schools and an instructor with Johnston Community College. Following retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and working with the children at First Baptist Four Oaks Preschool. Ellen loved to read, shop, and spend time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Johni Penny and husband, Jody; grandchildren, Livvi Bellamy, Harrison Penny, and Todd Penny; niece, Krista Barbour (Daniel), and nephew, Jed Barbour (Allison); brother-in-law, David Boyd, and wife, Beverly; special aunt, Evelyn Barbour; and a sister-in-law, Susan McCreary.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ellen Boyd 600 N. Baker Street, Four Oaks, NC 27524.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials may be made to the First Baptist Four Oaks Preschool, PO Box 717, Four Oaks, NC 27524, or to the SECU Hospice House, PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
