Faye Ann Hardee

    Birth Date: 10/03/1937
    Deceased Date: 01/03/2022

Faye Ann Hardee passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022. Born October 3, 1937, Faye was a daughter of the late Leon Earl and Ada Pope Faircloth Hardee. She was predeceased by her sister Pope and brother Al. Faye is survived by her sister Debbie Anderson and brother Thad Hardee, both of Smithfield, and sister-in-law Linda Hardee of Four Oaks.

Faye graduated from Smithfield High School in 1956. Faye attended Hardbarger Business College and graduated with a Diploma in Secretarial Studies. Most of Faye’s professional career of 30+ years was working at First Citizens Bank in the Purchasing Department and in Sales Finance.

Faye was a member of Smithfield’s First Baptist Church. She loved her church, and a great deal of her life was centered there. She was active in youth activities, Youth Choir, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served as a nursery worker, was a Group Leader for a Wednesday Night Supper team and the Bereavement Committee, and volunteered in the Clothes Closet.

Faye loved to cook and was a wonderful one, and that’s the reason Pope and Thad never had to learn to cook (now you know)! Her famous cheese straws were second to none, and she could whip out some awesome fudge (a limited number of people received that)! Faye took great pride in how she looked: dressed elegantly, make up on, and not a hair out of place. Although, one might say she took this matter to the extreme when she was fully “made up” for her 6 a.m. walks at Health Quest! Faye loved children, and she and Pope took great pleasure in helping to rear Lauren and Mark Colbert! And years later, Faye and Pope provided child care to Lauren’s son, Owen Alford (“eyeball” number 3). Faye was an avid reader, liked working word puzzles and playing Mexican Train, enjoyed watching televised sports events: professional tennis, the Olympics, college football and basketball, especially the ACC and NCAA Basketball Tournaments. But no games were better to watch than those involving the UNC Tar Heel basketball teams! Of most importance, two things that were “set in stone” for Faye were watching “The Young and the Restless” at 4 p.m. each week day and going to the hair salon every Friday morning!!

The family will host a Visitation on Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, 202 South 4th Street, Smithfield. Out of respect for Covid protocols, all attendees are encouraged to wear a face mask. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to First Baptist Church – Handbells Refurbishing Fund, P.O. Box 209, Smithfield, NC 27577 or to the Brian Center, 204 Dairy Rd., Clayton, NC 27520.

A huge thank you to the administration and staff of the Brian Center for their care giving and kindness during Faye’s brief illness.
