Frances Josephine “Judy” Zeller Morton, age 93, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Raleigh. She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on February 25, 1930 to the late Joseph William Zeller and Elmira Hurdle Zeller.
Judy was an AKC judge and taught classes in obedience and tracking. Her dogs were champions certified in obedience, tracking, and field trails. She was even called upon by the Sheriff’s Department to track escapees. She was a graduate of The Academie Moderne and Middlesex Secretarial School.
In her free time Judy enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, gardening, and she was an excellent cook.
Judy was a member of the Selma Women’s Club. She volunteered at the Tobacco Museum, the Ava Gardner Museum, and along with Linc, tutored for the Literacy program and worked the polls at election times.
The family will gather for a private burial at the cemetery.
In addition to her parents, Judy is preceded in death by husband of 54 years, Lincoln Morton; sisters, Vivian Hodgson (Ken); Lorraine Proctor (Red); and sister-in-law, Frances M. Dalton (Cornelius).
Judy is survived by daughter, Susan Hastings Morton of Raleigh; sons, Lincoln Edward Morton and wife Thea of Angier; Charles William Morton and wife Wendy Wenck of Carrboro; grandchildren, Edgar Paul Forehand IV (Julie); Joseph Lincoln Forehand (Leigh); Mary Elizabeth Forehand; Thais Melanie Morton; Yvonne Marie Weaver; Lincoln Emerson Morton (Emalee); Mary Frances Kemp (Doug); 14 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
The family suggests memorial donations to the SPCA.
