Frank Privette Wall

    Birth Date: 06/22/1936
    Deceased Date: 05/07/2024

Frank Privette Wall, Jr. died on May 7, 2024 after a period of declining health. He was born in Raleigh on June 22, 1936, the son of Frank Privette Wall, Sr. and Irma Smith Wall.

Frank attended Ravenscroft and graduated from Broughton High School in 1954. He then graduated from Duke University, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Despite being surrounded by Tar Heels most of his life, Frank remained a loyal Blue Devil all of his days and endured many good-natured taunts about his alma mater. After college Frank served in the United States Air Force and then returned to Raleigh, where he lived for the rest of his life. He enjoyed being a member of the “Old Raleigh Boys” for many years.

In retirement, Frank took particular joy in volunteering with what was then the Triangle Radio Reading Service, reading news stories for visually impaired people. He had an incredible memory, recalling page numbers, dates, and other arcane details. Frank could instantly rattle off the phone number for someone he had not called in years, for example. Debating him on any subject was an entertaining but often frustrating endeavor; he typically knew more about the topic and was not likely to be swayed in his opinion.

Frank is survived by Emma Jones Wall, his son Marshall, daughter-in-law Caroline, and his beloved grandsons, Angus and Frank. The family appreciates the excellent care provided for Frank in recent months by Dr. Todd Helton, caregiver Emma Peter, the staff at Rex Hospital, and Transitions LifeCare.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Frank’s memory to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

The family will have a private funeral service with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Smithfield.
