Harold Irving Langdon

    Harold Langdon passed from this world to the next on May 20, 2022 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife Karen Brown Langdon, daughter Vanna Langdon, son Dirk Langdon, wife Loretta Langdon, grandson D.J. Langdon, wife Jodee Langdon, great grandson Finley Langdon, niece Lynn Langdon Miedema, and nephew Jerry P. Langdon Jr.

    Harold was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Jeannie Lawson Langdon, father, mother, and brother Irving Lassiter Langdon, Gladys Pleasant Langdon, and Dr. Jerry P. Langdon.

    After graduating from East Carolina University with a BA in Music Harold served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, based in Hawaii. He then started his sales and sales management career with Mutual of New York in Hawaii in 1961 and retired from agency management on January 1, 1995.

    Harold has served as President of the Johnston County 4-H Club, President of the Johnston County 4-H Alumni, and a national talent show winner. Harold was also President of the West Tennessee Easter Seal Society and was also President of the Memphis General Agents and Managers Association. He served on the foundation Board of the NC school of Veterinary Medicine and on the Foundation Board of the Johnston Memorial Hospital.

    He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Smithfield NC, where he served on numerous committees and sang in the choir.

    Harold was an avid beagler and rabbit hunter, he raised and trained beagles all his life. After he retired, beagles became his true passion and hobby. He was well known all over the US for multiple field champion beagles. He participated in many field trials with his beagles and won many competitions. Harold had a true ear for a beagle’s bark.

    From a young age Harold learned to play trumpet and this was a big part of his life. He loved playing in jazz and blues bands. He loved to entertain anywhere he went, some may have known him as “Lucky Landy”. He was a phenomenal songwriter, which led him to producing his own album “Hound Dog Blues”.

    Harold also had a love for beach music and shagging. He was known in many beach clubs especially “Memories Beach Club” located in Atlantic Beach where he was a Hall of Fame Charter Member.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday May 24th at 11:00am and the celebration of life to follow at 12:00pm at the Presbyterian Church located at 215 S 3rd Street Smithfield, NC 27577. In lieu of flowers and memorials can be sent to the Presbyterian Church PO Box 1159 Smithfield, NC 27577.
