Dunn, NC: Mr. Horace Evet Byrd, age 93, of Happy Trails Lane passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Bill West and Mr. Buddy Hart. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.
Mr. Byrd was born on September 10, 1928 in Harnett County, NC to the late John Elbert and Irene Tart Byrd. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Itha Mae Stephenson Byrd just 24 days ago, a brother, John Edward Byrd; sisters, Alene Carroll and Eula Rackley and many loving pets. Mr. Byrd retired from Erwin Mills after 50 years of service. After his retirement he worked along side his wife at Dogwood Gardens. Mr. Byrd enjoyed fishing, loved to sing and dance, and watching golf on television. He was an avid bird watcher and made the best coleslaw in the world. Mr. Byrd loved life, you never saw him without a smile, and was a friend to all.
Surviving includes his daughters, Sheila Wright and husband, Joseph of Washington State, Darlene Blackmon and husband, Randy of Benson; seven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and other times at the home.
