Hubert Randolph Braswell

    Hubert Randolph “Buddy” Braswell, age 85, of Smithfield, passed away on August 11, 2024 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Born in Johnston County on April 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Gorge Amos and Ranzy Starling Braswell. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Braswell McLamb and Lyda Braswell. He was married to Jerrie “Sissy” Waddell Braswell who had two children, Star Shields and Skyler Shields.

    Buddy lived a full life. He was a hardworking man and always took pride in everything he did. He would help anyone at any time, that was just the way he was. He was a collector of many things and valued them dearly. He did not like to get rid of anything. He was a loving Father and “Pa” and loved having family get togethers. He was always there for his family no matter what. He also loved working the land; that was his livelihood and he took pride in his crops. He handed down his knowledge to his family and grandchildren. He had an impact on his community as well as family and will be truly missed by all.

    The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 – 9 pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday (8/15/24) at the homeplace located at 800 B Braswell Road near Smithfield. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Buddy’s sister Brenda who lives behind Buddy.

    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his three children, Greg Braswell, Sharon “Gail” Romero and husband Fabian (Shorty), Tim Braswell and wife Vickie; his longtime friend and mother of his three children Joyce Williford; seven grandchildren, Brittany Braswell, Jason Braswell, April Braswell, Luke (Katelyn) Braswell, Michelle Romero, Jennifer Romero and Steven Stanley; and seven great grandchildren; brothers, Amos “Rink” Braswell (Brenda), Jack Braswell (Judy); sisters, Alease Braswell Brown, Barbara Ann Braswell Ellis, Brenda Braswell Benson; and many nieces and nephews.
