James Arnold White was born in Pine Level on August 2, 1936 to Rupert Arnold and Grace Watson White. He attended Pine Level School graduating as valedictorian in 1955 and graduating from East Carolina College in 1959. After teaching and coaching a few years, he then worked until retirement with the Division of Purchase and Contract in the N.C Department of Administration. He married Janice Creech White in 1958. Their two sons are Michael and Stan White (Teresa), grandsons Dustin (Cristin), Blake, Andrew (Cinthya), Benjamin (Sarah), granddaughter Deanna, great grandchildren Allie Elizabeth White, Henry Arnold, and Lillian Joyce White.
The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Monday December 2, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. A graveside service will follow the visitation on Monday at 2:00 PM in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
After retirement Arnold and Janice enjoyed camping with family and friends and travelling. Arnold was a member of Pine Level First United Methodist serving as a Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, planning annual church Camp Don Lee camping trips, and in building and grounds maintenance. Arnold enjoyed golf, working outside keeping his and his mother’s yards, shrubs and flowers well kept. After his father’s death in 1984 he cared for his mother until her death at age 101 in 2020.
