James Donald “Don” Clifton

Benson: James Donald “Don” Clifton, age 87, passed away on March 1, 2026, at Rex Hospital. Mr. Clifton was born on February 12, 1939, to the late J.O. Clifton, Sr., and Beulah Love Clifton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother J.O. Clifton, Jr., sister-in-law Kay Lee Clifton, sister Kay Byrd, brother-in-law Johnny Byrd, and brother-in-law Herman Ogburn. He was a lifelong resident of Johnston County.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Lowery Clifton; son, Ken Clifton and wife Jo Ellen of Smithfield, son Kevin Clifton of McGee’s Crossroads area; grandchildren, Blake Clifton and friend Natalie of Nashville TN, Brett Clifton and wife Madison of McGee’s Crossroads area, Dane Clifton of Benson; great grandchildren, Whitley Clifton and Lainey Clifton; sister Edith Ogburn of Willow Spring area and several nieces and nephews.

His happiest moments were being surrounded by his family. He especially enjoyed all the times with family, eating, laughing, and being with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his visits to the country store, where he spent many happy hours talking with friends.

To honor Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation, flowers, or food.
