Kenly- Janie Ruth Peedin Parnell, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 27, 2023, surrounded by her family in Princeton. Born, August 14, 1936, in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late, Claude Peedin and Ruth WhiteHearst of Goldsboro. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter Eugene Parnell, son Willie E. Parnell, sisters, Edna P. Jackson and Patricia P. Watts, and son-in-law, Larry Huff.
Janie was truly an angel on this earth. She was a woman of the utmost resilience, she loved to dance with her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Janie also enjoyed finding goods at the thrift store that she could repurpose. She was an excellent cook, famous for her cakes and her hamburger gravy over rice. Janie was a loving, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the sweetest person, always treating everyone so kindly, never showing favoritism. She will be missed by all her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the burial to follow in the Kenly Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
She is survived by her son Jerry L. Parnell (Joleigh) of Smithfield; daughters, Shirley F. Huff of Princeton, Sandra “Dale” Graves (David) of Hampstead, sister, Linda P. Jackson of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Dorian G. Barnes, Devin L. Graves, Jenna P. Muniz, Julie P. Marsh, J. Jordan Parnell; great-grandchildren, Peyton Graves, Hayden Barnes, Weston Barnes, Carver Graves, Emerson Graves, Janie Ann Marsh, Charlie Marsh Jr. and one more baby Muniz due in March. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members as well as Largo, her protection dog.
In lieu of cut flowers, the family ask that a live plant that can be kept alive be gifted.
