Jerry was happily married to Judy Cockrell Weaver for 46 years until her passing in 2015.
Jerry’s Christian faith was the foundation of his life. He began and ended each day in prayer and held his family close in his thoughts. A devoted churchgoer, Jerry attended services every Sunday up until his passing. His unwavering faith guided him through life’s challenges and joys alike.
A true outdoors enthusiast, Jerry was an avid fisherman who once hooked a blue marlin and also a sailfish. He also took great pride in preparing fresh catches such as flounder and Spanish mackerel for family and friends. In addition to fishing, Jerry was an accomplished skeet shooter, earning state champion titles in both North Carolina and Georgia during their 60s.
In his younger years, Jerry was passionate about basketball—a fact they often shared with enthusiasm. One of his favorite stories was about leading Glendale High School to a hard-fought victory over rival Kenly in the championship game. That competitive spirit carried through to later years when Jerry found immense joy in attending every basketball, softball, baseball, and football game played by his beloved grandchildren, Anders and Annika.
