Smithfield – Jesse Lawrence Moore, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Agnes Moore; his beloved son, Robert Gary Moore; and his sister, Pat Flowers.

Jesse is survived by his devoted son, Jon Moore of Smithfield; his siblings, Sue Suggs, Gene Moore, and Mike Moore, all of Smithfield; his step-son, Joe Hallman of Chapel Hill; his cherished granddaughter, Tinsley Moore of Wilmington; and his niece, Pam Flowers of Clayton. He also leaves behind his special friend, Betty Guin of Smithfield, with whom he shared many warm conversations.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, spending most of his service years stationed in Nebraska. After his military service, he worked for many years and retired from the Winn-Dixie warehouse.

In his spare time, Jesse enjoyed playing softball and watching his son Jon play softball and was a passionate Carolina Tar Heels fan, often cheering them on alongside Jon. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his granddaughter, Tinsley, compete in athletic events—she carried on the competitive spirit and talent of both her father and grandfather.

Jesse also found joy in simple moments—walking at the medical mall, enjoying the sunshine, sipping coffee, and sharing stories with Ms. Betty.

Jesse will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the love he shared with his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The family will receive friends on Friday night at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
