John Bailey Elmore, age 74, died at his home on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Born September 24, 1947 in Sampson County to the late Ottis Marvin and Emma Bunch Elmore, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Bunch and a step-daughter, Montie Barbour. He was a member of Micro First Baptist Church. John was a retired Major in the US Air Force after more than 20 years. Following his military service, he worked as an optician, with his brother, at the American Eye Care Optometric Center in Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2021 in Micro First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Stevens and the Rev. Steven Walker officiating. A burial service, with military honors, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastern North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Kathy Trotter Elmore; son, John David Elmore of Dunn; daughters, Cathy Baggett and Angie Alphin both of Dunn; step-sons, Jamey Free of Wilmington and Jason Free of Four Oaks; brothers, Ottis Elmore and Dwight Elmore both of Dunn, Ronald Elmore of Raleigh, Donald Elmore of IN and William Elmore of Hope Mills; sisters, Dorothy Coats and Lou Cindy Jernigan both of Dunn; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
