Joseph Brandon Phelps

Joseph Brandon Phelps, age 43, passed away into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on January 17, 2026. He was born in Smithfield, North Carolina on February 7, 1982, to Carrie Jackson Smith and Jose Phelps. Brandon was deeply loved by his family and he will be remembered for his sense of humor, artistic talents, and the special love and connections for all animals. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Jackson and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Rosie Phelps.

Brandon is survived by his father, Jose Phelps of Four Oaks, NC, his mother, Carrie Jackson Smith; step father Nick Smith of Raleigh NC. His children Hunter, Alana, Zoe and Dalton. Brother, Wesley Smith, step-sister Ashley Creane; step-brother Tyler Smith. His maternal Grandmother Glenda Jackson as well as numerous cousins, whom he loved.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Christian Church, 1001 S. Crescent St. Smithfield, NC, on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, at 3:00 officiated by Reverend Dr. Johnathan Solomon. Family will receive friends following the service. Brandon was a casual man and would love for us to wear casual attire in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Johnston County Animal Protection League or a charity of your choice in his memory.

The family would like to express gratitude for all the prayers and kind gestures. And a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and their staff during this difficult time of the loss of our beloved Brandon.
