Smithfield, NC- Katherine Honbarrier Gardner, age 84, passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home on Thursday December 9, 2021 after a tragic but brave battle against Alzheimer’s. She was born in Wendell, Wake County on July 11, 1937 to the late James and Martha Ellen Bland Honbarrier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gene Gardner; sisters, Evelyn Lewis, Doris Williams, Martha Keen; brother, William Honbarrier.
Surviving are her son, Gene Gardner and wife Donna of Fuquay; daughter, Sue Gardner Coupal of Smithfield; son, Keith Gardner and wife Rhonda of Raleigh; son, Robert Gardner and wife Gina of Lillington; daughter, Sheryl Gardner Perez and husband Tony. She was the best mema to her grandchildren, Michael Gardner and wife Marciar, Jennifer Colman and husband Sean, Joshua Gardner, Steven Gardner and wife Melissa, Joey Coupal and wife Jamie, Nate Gardner, Anna Gardner, Samuel Gardner, Christalyn Bohde and husband Mike, Joseph Gardner and wife Elizabeth, Christian Perez and wife Geena and Courtney Perez. She was also very proud of her 16 great grandchildren.
She was a member of Grace Community Church and served the Lord faithfully until her diagnosis. She was known for her baking, sewing, crafting abilities as well for her sweet smile and friendly hugs to everyone that crossed her path.
A grave side service will be conducted on Thursday December 16, 2021 11 AM in Gethsemane Memorial Park in Zebulon, NC.
