Washington – Kenneth Wayne Johnson, age 73, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022, in the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston. He was born at Fort Sill OK, to the late Lt. Colonel (USA – Retired) Clayton and Dorothy Johnson.
Kenneth served his God and country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, during which he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat. He was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed working in his gardens. He worshipped with Wharton Trinity United Methodist Church and devoted time to studying the Bible. He was an avid reader. When able, he enjoyed serving the less fortunate in his community. He will be missed by his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hatcher Cemetery.
He is survived by his brothers; Richard Johnson (wife Elizabeth) of MD, Calvin Johnson of FL, his sister, Kathleen Hodges (husband Donald) of SC, and cousin, Denise Harper and her husband Billy, who were wonderful caregivers. He also leaves behind two aunts, many cousins, a niece, a nephew, and other family members.
