Kenly – Lynwood Ervin Crocker, 73, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at home with his family and caretaker by his side. Born in Wilson County on June 30, 1950, he was son of the late Willie Ervin Crocker and Mary Lucille Broughton Crocker.
Retiring from the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Lynwood offered 30 years of service to the state of North Carolina.
When at home, Lynwood’s television would often be tuned to Westerns, and his absolute favorite was Gunsmoke. Though he had likely seen every episode numerous times, each replay was as good as the first time viewing it. Any day spent on the water was a pleasure for Lynwood. The beach constantly called his name. He could spend hours visiting with friends. He enjoying fishing even on days that the fish were hardly biting.
Lynwood could also be found on any given Sunday watching NASCAR while grilling. He recognized the need for a relationship with his Savior on October 12, 2022 at 7:50 p.m. On Mother’s Day of 2023, he was baptized, marking his commitment to the Lord and His work by Pastor Matt Spence with many family and friends in attendance.
A skilled craftsman, Lynwood could build just about anything out of wood. He enjoyed carpentry and many friends and family members benefited from his labor. He was also a expert at gardening with his wife, Bonnie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service followed by a service to celebrate his life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Matt Spence officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Lynwood is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Lou Hales of Kenly, Jennifer Hales Willoughby (Ritchie) of Kenly; step-son, Allen Ray Hales (Renee’); grandsons, Reid Willoughby, and Jace Willoughby; his loving sister, Joyce House; sister-in-law, Joyce Crocker; his nieces, Deborah Aycock, Sherry Holt, Patsy Poole, Christy Watkins, Jennifer Crocker and his grand-dog, Addie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Creech Crocker; his brother, Ray Crocker; and brother-in-law, Vernon Jackson House, Jr. “Toodle”.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers, Chrystal Whitman, Amanda Evans and Lou Lewis for the love and care that they provided.
