Mark was a native of Johnston County and lived in Benson, NC most of his life. He graduated from South Johnston High School in 1975. He enjoyed fishing for bass in the local ponds, swimming, playing cards, and was quite good at shooting pool.
His work career began with Woodall Flooring, Inc. of Benson where he worked for 5 years. He then began his 20 year career with R. L. Dresser Inc. of Raleigh as a professional floor installer for auditoriums and athletic courts. After the decline of his mother’s health he left the flooring industry and became a devoted live-in caregiver for several years until her death.
Mark moved to Greenville, NC in 2009 to live near his brother’s family. He enjoyed attending Hollywood Church and singing in the choir until recent years. He really had a heart for being around the elderly. Mark provided companionship to many church members. He was easy going and would drop by to visit and drive them to appointments or the store when needed. He helped with small jobs both in and outside their homes. Mark was a quiet, slow moving fellow and made his elderly friends very comfortable. As his personal health issues increased he was unable to continue serving and working for others. He became more of a shut in himself. He was a kind, sweet soul whose body gave out much too soon.
He is survived by his brother Perry Donald Ennis and wife Deborah of Greenville; niece, Amanda Ennis Brewington and husband Bradley of Greenville; nephew, Joshua Logan Ennis and wife Elizabeth; great nephews Brayden and Benjamin Brewington, James Ennis; and great niece Charlotte Ennis.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hollywood Church EPC Building Fund, 5103 NC 43 South, Greenville, NC 27858.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the Pitt County EMS paramedics for their expertise and professionalism. Also, the ECU Health Medical Center ED and CCU doctors and staff for their excellent care and compassion.
