Mary Paulette Bailey Kornegay, 70, of Seven Springs, NC passed away at her residence Friday evening, January 26, 2024. Mrs. Kornegay was born in Johnston County January 6, 1954 to the late Paul Clifton and Rhoda Parnell Bailey. She was the widow of Percy G. Stewart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Jessie Bailey, Charles Bailey, sisters; Peggy Langston and Edith Ross.
Mrs. Kornegay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She retired after 30 years of work from the Johnston County Clerk of Courts Office. She was the Primary Care provider for her mother for several years. Mrs. Kornegay was passionate about animal rescuing. She was involved with multiple personal animal rescues through the years. She enjoyed doing yard work when able with gardening, working in flowers, burning yard debris, Beach music, shagging and dancing. Mrs. Kornegay had a love and zeal for life. Her family was so important to her. She enjoyed all the simple things in life, always putting other people first.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Casey Funeral Home & Cremations. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in the Chapel of Casey Funeral Home & Cremations with Pastor David Fields officiating. A private burial will be held at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Kornegay is survived by her husband; Garry M. Kornegay, daughters; Paula Jackson and husband, Frank of Benson, Dianna Stewart and boyfriend, John Bell of Seven Springs, Betsy Rose and husband, Dan, of Panama City, Florida, Darlene Branson and husband, Ron of Goldsboro, grandchildren; Alyssa Borja, Brianna Borja and fiancée, Stephen Hoover, JamaK’a Batts, Raekwon Batts, Brittany Jackson Baker and husband Tyler, step grandchildren; Trey, Ginny, Gabriel, Meghan, Courtney, Addi, Oliver, Madeline, Felicity, Vivi, Arabella, Emerson, great grandchildren; Devonte Anthony Williams Jr., Harmony Skye Hoover, Landon Hall, Daniel Braswell, Blakely Baker and Matthew Baker, Special close family members Kathy Summerlin, Rhodia Kornegay and Bobbie Rhodes, beloved feline companions; Tabby aka “ MaMa Kitty”, Sophie, Milo and Tux, and a host of nieces & nephews.
Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to Johnston County Animal Protection League (JCAPL), Smithfield, NC, Rita’s Rescue, Mt. Olive, NC, Purrfect Hearts Cat Rescue, Wilson NC or any No-Kill animal rescue of your choice.
