MaryAnn Villalpando

    MaryAnn Barrett Villalpando, a devoted servant of Christ and ordained minister, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at the age of 81. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her deep passion for sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others. Born November 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John William Barrett and Myrtle Smith Barrett. In addition to her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Villalpando; and sister, Janice Adham.

    Throughout her life, MaryAnn dedicated herself to ministry through both vocation and volunteer work. She served as the director of several women’s halfway homes, including the Wayside Home for Women in Goldsboro and the Smithfield Rescue Mission for Women. She also offered her wisdom and compassion as a counselor at the Raleigh Rescue Mission.

    MaryAnn’s calling extended to chaplaincy, where she served faithfully in hospitals and as a volunteer chaplain in prisons. Her heart for those in difficult circumstances also led her to work as a correctional officer at Central Prison in Raleigh, where she ministered with strength and grace. Her legacy is one of faith, service, and unconditional love. MaryAnn touched countless lives, offering hope and healing to those most in need. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

    MaryAnn is survived by her children, Christine Flowers (Billy), Thomas Bruske (Kim), and Jennifer Williams (Dwight); Grandchildren, Holley Bruske, Kellianne Bruske, Daniel Byrd, and Christina Ray; and 6 great-grandchildren.

    A graveside service to honor MaryAnn’s life will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10:00am, at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton. Flowers are appreciated.
