Noah Lee Blackman

Noah Lee Blackman, age 97, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on November 28, 1927, in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Rossie Blackman and Flossie Capps Blackman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Nora Blackman. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashlee Caroline Blackman and two brothers, Edward Williams and Buddy Blackman.

As a young man, Noah enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1946, serving in Japan immediately after World War II. He and his wife, Nora travelled extensively across the country throughout his military career, maintaining contact with the many friends they met along the way. After retiring from the Air Force, Noah and Nora returned to Johnston County to raise their young family. Noah continued to work for Sears and Pine State Creamery until retiring for a second time.

He was a faithful member of Live Oak Baptist Church where he served in numerous capacities including Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Noah enjoyed the simple aspects of life. He specifically enjoyed driving and working on Model A Fords. His passion for these cars led him to drive his Model A Ford from North Carolina to Alaska and back with no breakdowns. He also frequented the Kenly Gospel Music Hall and was a member of the American Legion, Post 141, Selma.

Noah is survived by a son, Noah Lee Blackman, Jr., and wife Debra, a daughter, Rebecca Blackman Russell, and husband, Brent. Grandchildren: Emily Blackman Beasley, husband Adam, and Austin Lee Blackman as well as one great-grandson, Luke Adam Beasley.

A funeral service to celebrate Noah’s life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 2:00pm at Live Oak Baptist Church in Selma. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in the Sullivan Family Cemetery.
