Peggy Simmons Parnell, 91, completed her earthly journey on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Helping Hands Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Johnston County to the late Vardell Simmons and Louise Pope Simmons on June 25, 1932.
Peggy was a homemaker. She lived a life of dedication to her family and friends. She was a long-time member of Kenly Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with the youth group and teaching the youth Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Peggy enjoyed being at the beach and at their place at Emerald Isle. She also enjoyed her frequent trips to Florida and Tennessee as well.
Peggy is survived by her son, David Wayne Parnell and his fiancé, Kaye Talton; sister-in-law, Jean Simmons; nieces and nephews, Chuck Simmons (Cindy), Lou Stubbs (Allen), Doug Parnell (Judy); JoAnn Moore, and Frances Parrish; and first cousin & close friend for almost 90 years, Jean Holland. She is also survived by her best buddy, Bo.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bobby Parnell and brother, Charles Vardell Simmons, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Reverend Aubrey Williamson and Chaplain Ramon Mizzell presiding over the services. A committal service will be on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kenly Cemetery.
