RA Avery, Jr., age 91, passed peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro with his wife of 70 years by his side. Born October 4, 1930 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Rufus Andrew “Bud” and Maggie Pearl Parker Avery. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Avery and Franklin Avery; and sisters, Martha Avery and Virginia Avery.
RA was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, RA attended and graduated North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. RA was the plant manager of C&K Components in Clayton. He was a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors and on the local school board of Selma for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon on Monday just prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
