Sallie Glenda Edgerton Wells, 81, of Pikeville, departed this world to meet her heavenly Savior on Friday, February 18, 2022. She was born in Johnston County on August 15, 1940, to the late Roland Glenn Edgerton and Linda Brogden Edgerton. The youngest of four sisters, she was loved and doted upon. Sallie shared a strong bond with her sisters and brothers-in-law throughout their lives. Lois Cuddington and husband Aubrey, Joyce Bridgers and husband Linwood, and Marjorie Alice Edgerton were surely the first to greet her in Heaven.
Sallie’s defining trait was her love for the Lord. She was a faithful Christian and an avid prayer warrior. In trying times, family and friends did not doubt that Sallie was interceding on their behalf. Her mornings were spent in prayer and Bible study, and gospel music was often heard playing over the radio as she did housework. Sallie was respected in the local Christian community. She worshipped for many years at Nahunta Friends Meeting and was later a member of Pinkney Baptist Church. She served the church in several capacities and touched the lives of many young children as a teacher of Sunday school and Wee Friends.
Her dearest calling was that of a wife and mother. Sallie was married to her husband Marvin Graham Wells for 60 years. Their love was evident to everyone around them and a true example of a godly marriage. Her children were the light of her life and she was influential in helping raise her grandchildren. She raised them up in the way of the Lord and pushed all in her household closer to Him.
Sallie showed love to her family and friends by sharing her interests and skills with them. She utilized her seamstress skills by mending clothes for her children and grandchildren. Gardening and spending time in nature were some of her favorite ways to pass time. Many memories were made on camping trips with Graham and the family and on fishing trips at the beach or in the mountains.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremations Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Clayton Sutton and Reverend Calvin Craft. Burial will follow at the Wells Family Cemetery which is near her home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremations.
Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband, Marvin Graham Wells; sons, Marvin Glenn Wells and fiancée Pam Pope of Pikeville, Roland Graham Wells “R.G.” and wife Amy Davis Wells of Pikeville; daughter and loving caregiver, Alicia Lee Wells of the home; grandchildren, Melody Dawn Casey and husband Andrew, Marvin Garrett Wells and fiancée Madison Stewart, Emily LuAnn Wells, and Madison Lauren Wells.
