It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Samuel Dudley Walters (Doug). He left us unexpectedly on October 15, 2024 in the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield.
He was born in Edgecombe County on April 16, 1956 and was the Son of Sam and Mary Walters.
The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Sunday October 20, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in Hinnant Family Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cathy Walters; a stepson, Derek Hinnant; brothers, Patrick Walters, and Rufus Walters.
He was a loyal and faithful husband, that always put his family first. He was the strongest and hardest working man we have ever known.
Doug had a business degree from Nash Community College. He was in management at Nash-Finch for the first part of his career. He worked for McLane Carolina first in management and as a driver. He retired with 25 years in 2021. He had a lawn care business that he worked for over 20 years and continued until he got sick.
Doug loved old cars and went to car shows and enjoyed helping restore a 1969 Camaro. He also loved to go to drag races and professional baseball games. Doug always loved to help people. If you needed him, he would drop everything and be there.
He is preceded in death by his father Sam Walters and stepson Jason Hinnant.
