Selma – Sherrill Ray Strickland, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, surrounded by his family in Smithfield. Born, July 14, 1935, in Johnston County he was a son of the late Charlie and Emma Strickland. He is preceded in death by his son, Timmy Strickland and his many siblings.
Ray was a member and enjoyed attending service at Faith Baptist Church in Selma. Ray loved his work as a lineman installing underground wiring for communication and T.V. He also enjoyed riding to the mountains, going fishing, watching westerns and listening to country and gospel music. Best of all though, he loved his family and especially his only granddaughter Ashley. He will be missed by all his loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the burial to follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Wilson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 1:00 p.m. prior to the service and at other times at the home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Christine Strickland; sons, James Michael Strickland of Selma, Jimmy Ray Strickland of Selma and Sherrill Strickland Jr. of Selma, daughter, Patricia Batten of Selma and granddaughter, Ashley Brooke Strickland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
