Tony Curtis Goodwin, 66, passed away at UNC Chapel Hill on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born in Chapel Hill on September 19, 1958 to Delois Mae Parker Peedin and the late Curtis Goodwin. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Steve Lynn and grandmother, Mae Bell Groves.
Tony spent most of his life in Chapel Hill where he was born. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved his grandmother Ms. Mae Bell Groves very much and never missed a chance to enjoy her great Southern Cooking. Tony loved his mother and called her often to discuss life, as he lived it. He is survived by one sister, Teresa who he spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas with. He loved working on cars to take to the Drag Strip and see how fast they would run. He enjoyed going to Daytona and we always talked about NASCAR and which driver he liked. He is a retired truck driver and was last employed by Puryear Trucking Company in Raleigh, NC. He loved fishing and one of our favorite memories was going with him to a special friend’s pond and catching fish two at a time. The look on his face was priceless when he caught a huge bass. Tony was a giving person who never met a stranger. While he was not a wealthy person, he shared what he had with others without expecting anything in return. Tony loved to tell jokes and laugh with us every chance he got. Tony previously owned a beautiful Corvette and a Harley-Davidson that he was very proud of. After he moved to the Senior Apartments, he would ride his Moped and the other tenants began to call him Evil-Knievel and that nickname fit him to a tee.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Peedin and husband, Paul; sister, Teresa Peedin and husband, Pete; nieces, Brandy Carlson and Elizabeth Edwards; nephews, Daniel Peedin and wife, Joanna and close friends, Lee Vowell and Barry Davis.
