Selma- Velma Rose Carter, age 93, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield. Born, March 27, 1932, in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late Roby A. Rose and Sadie Mitchell Rose. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward “Ed” Carter, brothers; Roby Rose Jr., Ronnie David Rose, and sister, Alice Marie Story. Velma was a member of Niagara Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years. Velma loved to travel, she took many trips to places including; Florida, the mountains of North Carolina and to the NC Coast. She was proud of her beautiful yard and worked hard to maintain it even in her later years. Velma also enjoyed sewing and quilting in her spare time. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her siblings and all her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Dye officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
She is survived by her brother, Vernon Rose (Louise) of Kenly, sisters; Nancy Rose of Smithfield and Betty Boswell (Rayvon) of Selma, as well as many nieces and nephews.
