Coats, NC: Mrs. Virginia Mary Bate Catelli, age 81 of Remington Drive passed away Monday, October 14, 2024 at her residence surrounded by family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30AM Monday, October 21, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove. Officiating will be Father Brian Vaccaro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. You are welcomed to join the family to pray the Holy Rosary at 5:30PM Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson. Following the Rosary, the family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
Virginia was born June 23, 1943 in Bridgeport Connecticut to the late Alan Harry and MaryJo (Merrills) Bate. Virginia with her family, lived in several different states through her childhood including Connecticut, Ohio, and Wisconsin. She graduated from Vassar College, where, among other activities participated in the Intercollegiate Outing Club, where she met Peter Frederick Catelli. They had a short courtship and married on June 4, 1966. After a honeymoon trip where they spent the summer in Ukiah California, they returned to New York state where they began their family and Virginia began her teaching career, teaching in the New York public school systems until the family relocated to New Hampshire in 1985. Virginia also supported Peter in his businesses, and they enjoyed working together. They also volunteered in their local Catholic Church with teen ministries, catechism classes, marriage preparation classes, and were heavily involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter for 25 years. Together with Peter, Virginia relocated to Coats in 2005 where they retired close to family.
Virginia’s survivors are, her husband Peter Frederick Catelli, four children Rose Virginia Catelli West, Alan Peter Catelli, Mary Louise Catelli Thibodeau, and Ruth Ann Catelli and three children in Law: Curtis West, Mark Thibodeau, Jennifer Catelli. Fourteen grandchildren: Nicole West Brown, Stephanie West, Theodore West, Veronica West Wilson, Alexis West, Christina West, Danielle West, Rebecca Catelli, Peter F. Catelli, Ruth F. Catelli, Aife Catelli, Ursula Catelli, Rachel Thibodeau, and Sebastian Thibodeau. Two grandsons in law: Michael Brown and Saxton Wilson. Four great grandchildren Benjamin, Leslie, Eloise and Russell.
