    Smithfield – Benjamin Merle “Ben” Ormond, age 80, died Sunday morning at his home. Born June 30, 1937 in Craven County to the late Benjamin Willis and Betty Nobles Ormond, he was the owner and operator of Ben’s Towing Service from 1987 until 2006. He was a member of Mosley Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Dover for many years.
    A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. John Cole and the Rev. Vickie Medlin officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
    Surviving are his ex-wife and longtime companion, Sue Hart of the home; son, Willis Ormond and wife Jackie of Angier; daughters, Susan Ormond Smith and her companion Chris Weidenhammer of Kinston and Jan Ormond and her companion, Mack Thornton of Four Oaks; sister, Sue Singleton of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren, Aimee Nethercutt and husband Eric of Kinston, Frankie Ray Smith, Jr. of Georgia, Janna Vinson and husband Cola of Knightdale, Samee Jo Miller and husband Dale of Kinston, Sarah Smith of Kinston, Jenny Odom and husband Josh of Four Oaks, Nancy Cole and husband John of Clayton and Benjamin Ormond of Angier; eight great grandchildren, Alex Nethercutt, Cayden Kirby, Alyssa Nethercutt, Jackson Miller, Jordan Miller, Charlie Odom, Vayda Graham and Reese Vinson and a niece Joy Singleton.
