Bertie Jean Futch

    Bertie Jean Howell Futch went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018 at her home while surrounded by her family.

    Bertie Jean was born in Wayne County on November 21, 1934 to the late Robert Clifton Howell and Blanche Mae Talton Howell. She was married to the late George Edward Futch.

    Bertie Jean was a longtime member of Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pikeville. She was devoted to her church and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. Bertie Jean enjoyed cooking and gardening but loved the many opportunities she had to serve others at church and in her community. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be missed.

    The family will receive friends at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. followed by a service to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Merle Davis officiating. Interment will be in Yelverton Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithfield.

    Bertie Jean is survived by her children, Ricky Stanley Jones of the home, Gloria Jean Thomas and husband David of Princeton, Roger Evans Jones and wife Jenny of Fremont, Debbie McLamb of Kenly, Lisa Futch of Rosewood and Steve Futch of Dudley; twelve grandchildren, Doug, Deborah, Jason, Ricky Jr., Ashley, Stephanie, Tiffany, Steve Jr., Courtney, Bud Jr., Matthew, Tony, and Candice; step grandchild, Tony, and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jerry, Jeslyn, Nevaeh, Justin, Hailey, Jayden, Little Man, Savannah, Dayquan, Mykiah, Caleb and Cameron; three step great grandchildren; and one step great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Renfrow and husband Ken of Kenly, Carolyn Lindsey of Fremont and Betsy Harris and husband Roy of Rosewood.

    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Stanley Jones; son, Norman Carrol Jones, daughter, Regina Lynn Futch, son-in-law, Terry McLamb; brother-in-laws, Bill Penzer and Ralph Lindsey; and grandson, Timothy.
