Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Betty Byrd Capps, age 79, of 2957 King Mill Road, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Funeral Services will be handled 3:00 P.M.-Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks, NC. Officiating will be Revs. Erik Reynolds and John Jernigan. Burial will follow in the Capps Family Cemetery at the residence.
Mrs. Capps was born on September 22, 1942 in Johnston County to the late Charlie Hatcher and Lula Weeks Byrd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Shelton Capps; grandson, Christopher Capps; son-in-law, Michael Troy Jackson; sisters, Janice Byrd Thorne and Esther Maybelle Byrd; brothers, Charlie Rayford Byrd, Bobby Jenkins Byrd, Glenn Edwin Byrd, and Roy Randall Byrd. She was a housekeeper with Dorothea Dix Hospital for 30 years and was a member of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church.
Surviving include her daughters, Doris Jackson of Durham, Karen Williams and husband, Eddie of the home, and Nancy Capps of the home; son, Thomas Capps and wife Shelby Tyndall of Erwin; grandchildren, Spencer Capps, Matthew Capps, Andrew Capps, and Kaylee Williams; great grandchildren, Katey Beal and Mason Capps; sisters, Frances Whittenton and Joanne Drennan; and brother, Hilton Byrd and wife Betty.
The family will receive friends from1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. prior to the service and other times at the home.
In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
