We said farewell at 8:00 am this morning to the Man, the Myth and the Legend, Bobby John Jernigan (age 82) of Cleveland Road just outside of Smithfield, NC. Born to the late John and Sallie Jernigan of Smithfield, NC on September 2, 1939. In his lifetime he has held many job titles to include Maintenance Technician at Burlington Mills; Farmer at not only on his mother and father’s family farm, but also his own Tobacco Farm and Landscaper for Poole Home Builders. But his life long passion was being a Moonshiner. Throughout his long and glorious life he loved good liquor, fast cars, young ladies and high stakes gambles. He was a generous and compassionate man that was known by many and loved by all.
Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Banner Chapel Church Cemetery, 1771 NC 50, Benson, NC 27504. The family will receive friends at the cemetery.
He is survived by his children Bobby (Bo) John Jernigan Jr and wife Carol, Timothy Lee Jernigan and wife Crystal, Alan Ray Jernigan and wife Dana, and daughter-in law Susan Robinson Jernigan; his dear and special friend Beverly Moody who took care of Pops for several years; his sister Lois May and husband Bill; niece Dorothy (Dot) Locklear and husband Wilbur, Dot was raised with him as a sister; and nephew Larry Tart that was raised with him as a brother; sister-in-law Kathy Jernigan that has been an anchor in his and his children’s life for many decades and sister-in-law Maria Jernigan; grandchildren Peggy Marie Jernigan Landgren, David Wayne Keene, Jimmy Joe Jernigan and wife Leah, William Levi Jernigan, April Michelle Jernigan Russell and husband William(Ren), Michael Jernigan, Tanner Lee Jernigan and wife Kymberly, Megan Jernigan, Summer Dawn Jernigan, John Wayne Jernigan, Scottie Ray Jernigan and wife Sarah, Justin Daniel Worley and wife Lydia, Spencer Alan Jernigan, Mason Raymond Jernigan, Crystal (Peanut) Langston, Trevor Langston, Hayden Langston, Grayson Langston and Abygail Langston; and nieces and nephews that were just like his children to include Sherwood Jernigan and wife Kim, Andy Jernigan and wife Elizabeth, Randy Jernigan, Lori Locklear King, Sammy Locklear, Phillip Locklear, Teresa Eastwood, Ricky Tart, Tom Jernigan and Maria Goldman; and great-grandchildren; Breanna Keene, Kaylee Craig, Holden Russell, Hadley Russell, London Senecal.
Coming from a very large family there are many other family members to include: Garrett Jernigan, Jordan Carrasquillo and husband Josh, Ashton Lee, Jenna Jernigan, Johnathan Jernigan, Jacob Jernigan, Danny Lee and wife Felicia, Ray Jernigan his son Tony Jernigan and Tony’s wife Susan, Angie Peacock Benson, Elaine(Marilyn) Lee, Sammy Lee, Bryon Lee, Richard Jernigan and wife Alice, Willa Nichols, Dan Brown, Wanda Dale Johnson, Jimmie Jernigan, Eddie Jernigan, Jean Thomas, Wanda Duckworth, Shirley Heuser and husband Terry, Rosalee Jernigan Swift, Cheryl Jernigan, Melissa Jernigan Brooks, Debra Jernigan, Linda Ruth Toole, Rodney (Shorty) Toole, Rhonda Griffin, Scarlett Boswell, Jimmy Jernigan, Glenda Jernigan, Melvin Stanley, Jason Stanley, Lisa Stanley, Elgie Jernigan Griffin, Dawn Wiggs, Darlene Keene, and Lillie Jernigan Langston. Again we have a very large family and I apologize in advance if I have left anyone off of this list.
He was proceeded in death by his father, John Jernigan and mother, Sallie Elizabeth Jernigan; his children Mark Anthony Jernigan, Terry Wayne Jernigan, Maryland Jernigan, and Cindy Jernigan; his brothers John (JR) Jernigan Jr, Hugh Lee Jernigan, Lloyd (Tom) Jernigan, Donald (Duck) Jernigan and Warren (Doodle) Jernigan; his sisters Myrtle Jernigan Brown, Rosalie Jernigan, Geraldine Lamm, Ruby Ines Tart, Cartha Stephenson and her husband Proctor; his nephew Mick Tart that was raised with him as a brother, nephew Billy Lee, and Glen Jernigan.
With sadness and a heavy heart, we wish him well as he ascends to those heavenly gates.
