Clara Lee Evans Hines
Clara Lee Evans Hines, 88, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Goldsboro, NC. Clara Was the eldest daughter of Edgar Lee and Pearl Worley Evans and the step-daughter of Mae Creech Evans. She was born in Johnston County on December 31, 1930. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ray “Shag” Hines whom she married on June 3, 1949 and had 4 children. The Gathering will be at 4:00 pm and the Funeral Service at 5:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations Chapel with the Reverend Mike Collier officiating.
Clara graduated from Rosewood High School in 1948 as Salutatorian, Atlantic Christian College with a BA in 1962 and East Carolina College with a MA in education in 1966. She received academic scholarships and graduated with honors all while raising a family. She was a principal at Nahunta School, a respected teacher at Rosewood School for many years and retired in 1989 to care for her family. Clara enjoyed shopping , flowers, cooking, crocheting, visiting and helping others. She had a generous heart and spirit sharing her flowers, special sale items and homemade craft items. She frequently would visit childhood friends and brighten their day.
She is survived by her 4 children, son, Kelvin R. Hines; daughters, Lugean Jones Hogan, Wren Rouse and Robin Ellis; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Cedessel Glover, Kay Mitchell, Daphne Everett and Families.
Although flowers are welcome the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Rosewood First Baptist Church or Rosewood Elementary School.
