    Wilmington – Curtis Eugene Sutton, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 12, 2021, in his home in Wilmington. He was born a son of the late John Wesley Sutton and Mary Anderson Sutton on February 1, 1935, in Johnston County.

    He is preceded in death by his sister, Etholea Dixon, brother-in-law, Cecil Dixon, and sister-in-law, Deloras Sutton.

    Curtis was a previous member of Carters Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, Grace Baptist Church in Kinston, Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville, and a current member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Wilmington. He was a well-respected Christian man, he loved attending church, witnessing for the Lord, and working in his gardens and flower beds. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. In addition to his military service, he worked as a lab tech at Dupont in Kinston for 40 years. He also loved playing in the senior games and playing ball with the grandkids.

    Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in Carters Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Selma with the burial to follow in Carters Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.

    He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Jeanette McKinney Sutton, son, J.F. Pierce III (wife Jamie), daughter, Jessica Sutton Nelms (husband Bobby), son, John Curtis Sutton (wife Emily), brother, Roger Sutton (wife Faye), grandchildren, Chelsie Pierce Hopkins (husband Roy), Travis Pierce, Lillie Pierce, Julie Pierce, James Pierce, Marie Pierce, Jonathan Pierce, Jacob Pierce, Josiah Sutton, Sophie Sutton, Isaiah Sutton, great grandchildren, Matthew Happel, Wyatt Happel, Scarlett Happel, and Maverick Hopkins.
