Selma – Douglas Sherwood Brown, age 77, died Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at home after a long but valiant battle against cancer. Born September 24, 1942 in Johnston County he was a son of the late George Vick and Stella Harriet Hatcher Brown. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Warren LeRoy Brown; and four unborn grandchildren. Sherwood graduated Glendale High School in 1961 and started his career as a lifelong farmer. He retired in 2004 from Vishay Measurements Group in Wendell. He was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Branch Chapel OFWB Church in Selma.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 in the Brown/McCall Family Cemetery, located on Brown’s Pond Road, Selma. Family and friends are welcome to visit at the home at other times.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Lynda B. Brown; son, Jonathan Brown and wife Lisa; daughter, Valerie Creech and husband Michael; grandchildren, Marcy Creech, Noah Brown, Hannah Brown, Miriam Creech, and Lily Creech; brother, Worth Brown and wife Gail; sister, Bonnie Aycock and husband Doug; and many nieces and nephews.
