Eddie Ray Edgerton, 66, of Cocoa, Florida, formerly of Four Oaks NC, died Saturday, February 13 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Smithfield, NC on October 8, 1954, a son of Ray Carlton Edgerton (deceased) and Willie C. Wilkins Bongiorno. He was a grandson of the late M.C. and Thora S. Wilkins of Four Oaks, and the late Andrew Carlton and Maggie Anderson Edgerton of Smithfield.
Eddie was an ordained minister of worship. He served as a music minister, pastor and worship leader for churches in North Carolina, Florida, and New York. He and his wife, Peggy, were missionaries, ministering to people in the USA. Jamaica, Kenya, and Israel. Their ministry included helping people find freedom from drug addiction. Eddie’s focus was to bring people to the heart of the Father through worship. He attended South Johnston High School in Four Oaks and Oral Roberts University.
Surviving are his wife Margaret (Peggy) Edgerton of Cocoa, Fla. ; mother Willie C. Wilkins Bongiorno and husband Robert of New Bern, NC; brother Calvin Ray Edgerton and wife Dotty of Newton Grove, NC; sister Wendy Marsh and husband John of New Bern, NC; daughters, Stacy Edgerton-Garrett and husband, John, of New Jersey; Suzie Gerace-Jacobs and husband Josh of Florida; sons, Eddie R. Edgerton Jr. and wife, Karin, of New Jersey; Keith Merland Edgerton and wife Katy of Florida; Scott Gerace of Florida; grandchildren: Julia Edgerton, Brianna Garrett, Amanda Garrett, Caitlyn Bona, Gage Jacobs, Samantha Febish, and Dylan Riley.
A memorial service will be held March 13 at Freedom Christian Center in Melbourne, Florida. Memorial gifts may be made to the church at houseoffreedom.org.
