Micro – Edward Ruffin Batten, Sr., age 93, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his home. Born March 4, 1924 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Fred and Nettie Elizabeth Davis Batten. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Hope Watson Batten; one brother; and six sisters. Edward was the founder and president of the Johnston County Gospel Singing Association. He was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Clayton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Stevens, Dr. Charles Ennis, and Rev. Dwayne Batten officiating. Burial will follow in Kenly Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are his children, Janice Batten Crocker of Clayton, Edward Ruffin Batten, Jr. and wife Wanda of Selma, William Fred “Billy” Batten and wife Sheila of Kenly, and Rev. Dwayne Batten and wife Debbie of Princeton; sister, Laverne Batten Lee of Garner; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
