Coats, NC : Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Robertson Beasley Guy, age 96, of 284 S. Carrie St. died Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Saturday at Coats Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Newkirk. Burial will follow in the Coats City Cemetery.
Mrs. Guy was born June 28, 1920 in Harnett County to the late Lewis Clark and Vada Stewart Robertson. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Charles W. Beasley and Curtis A. Guy; and sisters, Mary Alice Jackson and Virginia Bruner.
Mrs. Guy, who was known as Lib to her friends and family, lived in Coats most of her life. She was a longtime member of Coats Baptist Church. For many years, she taught Sunday School for the preschoolers, worked with the youth at the Baptist Training Union and worked with the Girls Auxiliary. So important was she in the lives of these girls, she was feted by them in a “This is Your Life” event.
Mrs. Guy worked as a teacher’s aide at LaFayette, Coats, and Bunnlevel schools until her retirement. In 2002, she was the first recipient of the James Thomas Coats Humanitarian Award given by the Coats Chamber of Commerce. She also served as the grand marshal of the Coats Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade in 2009.
Mrs. Guy’s greatest happiness was raising her daughters. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for her family and friends. Mrs. Guy was a woman of grace, character, compassion, and love who showed many acts of kindness, generosity, and support to others. She made a positive difference in people’s lives.
Surviving include daughters & sons-in-law, Sybil & James O. Wells of Atlanta, GA and Ann & Jimmy K. Jones of Garner; half-sister, Jean Hearst of California; half-brother, Bill Bankson of Alabama; grandchildren & spouse, Tara Britt, Todd Jones and Brandon & Jan Jones; granddaughter-in-law, Kaye Jones; great grandchildren & spouse, Garret & Sarah Jones, Jessica Britt, Colby Jones and Brock Jones; sisters-in-law, Ann Beasley, Dovie Beasley, and Reta Strickland; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends and neighbors she talked to almost daily.
Family will receive friends at Coats Baptist Church from 12:30PM to 1:45PM Saturday prior to the service and other times at the home.
