Coats, NC: Mrs. Florine Johnson Penny, age 97, died Tuesday at Emerald Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lillington. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Thursday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Coats. Officiating will be Rev. Brenda Jackson and Ann Jones. Burial will follow in Coats City Cemetery.
Mrs. Penny was born on January 22, 1920 in Harnett County to the late Chesley and Arlie Wester Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Penny, Sr. son, Donald Kress Penny, sister, Jesse Mae Canaday and brothers, Johnny Johnson and Larry Johnson. Mrs. Penny was a homemaker and was a member of Coats Baptist Church.
Surviving include sons, Howard L. Penny Jr., and wife, Patricia; and Gary B. Penny and wife, Ronda of Coats; grandchildren and spouse, Howard L. Penny, III “Buddy” and Amanda P. and Brett Matthews; one great-granddaughter, Blakley Victoria Matthews; sisters, Ramona Bethune, Edith Mangum and Doris Peebles and brothers, Aaron Johnson and Nathan Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 1:15 PM – 2:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats and other times at the home of Gary and Ronda Penny, 2321 NC Hwy 27 East, Coats, NC 27521.
