Floyd Walter Stewart

    Smithfield—Floyd W. Stewart, 89, passed away on July 24, 2018. Mr. Stewart was born on September 29, 1928 in Craven County, NC. He was the youngest of eight children born to Floyd Walter and Alice Mills Stewart.
    Mr. Stewart began working at Carolina Telephone (now CenturyLink) in Morehead City after high school and had a 47 year career, working his way up through the company to managing the second largest district in the company. He was an active Mason of 60 years serving as Past Master. He was also active in many civic organizations including the Shriners, the Civitan Club, and the JC’s. Mr. Stewart was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield. He loved his church and served in many positions in the church including teaching Sunday School.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, July 27, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:45 until 1:45 prior to the service. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
    Surviving are: daughter, Julianne S. Hall and husband Ray of Smithfield; grandchildren, Adam Hall and Alaina Hall, both of Smithfield, Emily Stewart and Robert “Rob” Stewart, both of Georgia, and Grant Stewart of Alabama; great grandchild, Madelyn Odoom of Smithfield; daughter in law, Carol Edmiston Stewart of Georgia; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Grantham Stewart, his son Jeffrey Stewart, his daughter Susan Stewart Allen, and his seven brothers and sisters.
    Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565, or to the Centenary UMC Memorial Fund, 140 E. Market St, Smithfield, NC 27577.
