Gerald Lynn Monk, born July 14, 1950, in Washington, D.C.to the late Commodore Harvey Monk, Sr, and Davetter Butler Monk Shepard, peacefully answered his Heavenly Father’s voice the morning of November 25, 2020, at home. He was baptized at an early age in the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton NC, and was a member of the junior choir and participated in many church activities. He later joined First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC. Throughout, his life he maintained a strong faith in God and a belief in the power of prayer. He easily made friends and kept them for life.
Gerald graduated from E.E. Smith High School, Fayetteville, N.C. After high school, he attended Voorhees College in Denmark, SC but later transferred to Fayetteville State University. He worked in the construction field for most of his adult life until his health declined. In July 1970 he married Janet Lucas and to this union, they had one daughter Michelle Monk. Gerald married Linda Campbell in 1980 and. Gerald met and married his wife Belinda Smith and they reside in High Point, NC.
Gerald had a pleasant personality and love to tease and joke. He easily made friends and kept them for life. Gerald leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Belinda, his daughter Michelle (Jessie), granddaughter Briana and grandson Omavi Tshiona, who preceded him, brother Commodore Harvey Monk Jr (Barbara), stepson Antonio Posey, one uncle Cecil Butler (Ruby), and a host of other cousins, and other family members, and friends.
All attendees are asked to wear a mask and to participate in social distancing.
