Gilbert Earl Rose, age 87, of 3186 Creech’s Mill Road, Smithfield, NC passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 around 2:20pm. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.
Gilbert was born in the Brogden community of Johnston County to Garland and Eunice (Creech) Rose. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1948. Shortly after, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his time in the Navy, he went to Hardbarger’s Business School in Raleigh where he met his wife of 61 years, Lessie Beasley. He also attended Devry University in Chicago. Il. Gilbert spent most of his career working as a quality assurance manager at Shallcross, Inc., and Eaton, Inc. He was a longstanding member of Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father and his two brothers Troy and Rupert. He leaves with us his wife, Lessie B. Rose, three daughters Terry F. Rose of Smithfield. NC, Lori L. Rose (husband, Patrick Morgart) of Durham, NC, and Pamela L. Rose of Durham, NC. He also has two grandchildren Zach Sorgi of Charlotte, NC and Jessica L. Sorgi of Durham, NC.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Parish’s Funeral Home in Selma. The service to honor Gilbert’s life will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors in Selma Memorial Gardens.
