Coats, NC: Mrs. Grace Stewart Penny, age 97, of Coats died Saturday at Universal Health Care in Lillington. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday at Coats Baptist Church. Officiating will be Revs. Randy Beasley, Neil Thornton and Edward Beddingfield. Burial will follow in Coats City Cemetery.
Mrs. Penny was born February 12, 1920 in Harnett County to the late Malcolm, Sr. and Ethel Avery Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Penny; a sister, Dorothy Penny; brothers, Franklin Stewart, Tony Stewart, Malcolm Stewart, Jr. Mrs. Penny was a 4-H Leader, and member of the Home Maker Extension. She collected money for Red Cross during WWII and for the Easter Seals. Mrs. Penny farmed with her husband and in later years was employed with Terre Hill Manufacturing Company in Coats. She and her husband delivered Meals On Wheels for over 20 years. Mrs. Penny enjoyed fishing with her husband and buddy as long as she was physically able. She was an active member of the Coats Baptist Church for over 70 years.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Peggy Penny of Coats; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Ronald McLamb of Coats; sisters, Anne Stewart of Emerald Isle, Jane G. Vester of Apex, Teeny G. Upchurch of Lillington; four grandchildren & spouses, Traci & Mike Snyder, Beth & Dereck Savage, Korey & Laura Penny, and Roxanne & Tim Shelley; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 9:45AM to 10:45AM at the Coats Baptist Church prior to the service and other times at the home of Cathy and Ronald McLamb, 2544 NC 27 East, Coats, NC 27521.
