Dunn, NC: Mr. Harold B. Jernigan, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM-Monday, July 12, 2021 at the Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Coats, NC. Rev. Brad Talley will officiate. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens in Dunn with Military Honors.
Mr. Jernigan was born on June 23, 1931 in Harnett County to the late Ernest B. and Mary Ellen Holmes Jernigan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Godwin Jernigan and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Jernigan retired from the US Air Force after 30 years of faithful service to his country. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Bravery on June 2, 1969 for saving his crew from a bomb that had caught fire on the plane. Also, in 1973 he was part of the airlift mission that brought out the American POWs from Northern Vietnam to the Philippines. Mr. Jernigan was a member of Grace Community Church in Angier.
Surviving are his children, Terri J. Shrieves and husband, Mike of Dunn, Debbie J. Easley of Dunn, Kim J. Shuster and husband, Kevin of Prescott Arizona, and Steve H. Jernigan and wife, Jan of Needles, California; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 1:45PM prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats and other times at the home.
