Harvey Earl Edwards, 85, of Selma N.C., went to be with the Heavenly Father on 06/01/2018. Born and raised in Johnston County, Harvey graduated from Selma High School in 1952. Soon thereafter, he enlisted and served his country honorably the in the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, Harvey worked in government, retail and the Christian music ministry in the Johnston County area. Harvey’s faith was no secret to anyone who was around him for any length of time. He had given his life to God, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Harvey was always willing to share a word of encouragement by faith with anyone.
Harvey’s primary calling and passion was gospel music; An avid gospel music performer, promoter and fan, Harvey sang and performed with many gospel groups over the years. He sang with, and managed, his latest group, “Harvest Time”, for nearly 38 years, traveling in several states along the east coast. Many souls were blessed and won through this ministry of music. He remained engaged in music and the ministry of music until his last days; He was active in his church, was a member of, and led his church’s praise team at Praise Sanctuary in Princeton, N.C.
Harvey held his family and friends next to his heart; he loved them all, and the sentiment was mutual. He often stated that his biggest asset was the people in his life. He enjoyed a congenial and loving relationship with so many individuals that it would take a book to name them all. Harvey was recognized by those who knew him to be a most compassionate man for anyone in need. His love and care for others was simply unrivaled. Many people were helped through the most difficult and trying times of their lives by the actions and genuine concern of Harvey. His kind acts, born of his faith in God, a good heart and gentle nature, will continue to bear fruit in the lives of others that benefited from his generosity and care.
God blessed Harvey with music, a sense of humor, an enthusiastic smile and a genuine compassion for others. And, in turn, Harvey used his life to minister in music, bring encouragement to and provide a helping hand to anyone in need. He went about life with good cheer, and even in his darkest days showed strength and character that blessed and encouraged those around him. His was a full life, with purpose that was well-lived.
